What is the One True Church?

What is the One True Church?

READ JOHN 10:1-10

I have added statements outside the quotes.  CBN makes some good points about the true church and about knowing true churches.
Using Jesus' metaphor, the true church is the flock of sheep hearing
Jesus(the SINGLE 'GOOD PASTOR-SHEPHERD) HEARING HIS WORDS AND
FOLLOWING HIM. '  All of this backs up the point that the church is not a building, institution, or organization determined by men.
By CBN.com  (within the quotation marks--all of which I agree)

"CBN.com -- The one true church is the universal body of believers everywhere who have given their hearts to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. That is the only true church (see Ephesians 1:22-23Colossians 1:18).
The Bible teaches us that we must maintain the unity of the Spirit (see Ephesians 4:3) until we come into unity of faith (see Ephesians 4:13). In other words, spiritual unity is something that all Christians can have. Complete unity of knowledge is something for the future.
The fact that there are many different denominations reflects a lack of knowledge in the church. In many instances, it also reflects pride. People are unwilling to meet together with others and submit their concepts to the body of Christ. And many denominations have come about because of doctrinal error. What begins as a beautiful and fresh revelation of God often degenerates into lukewarmness and then into fighting what God is doing.
Many times those who claim to know God persecute those who really do. It becomes necessary for the Lord Himself to come back with a fresh revelation to break through the solidification of the orthodox believers. This happened in Israel. Israel had lost sight of the Lawgiver in their exaltation of the Law. They killed Jesus, who was the manifestation of God, in the name of their law.
In the Middle Ages, when the church had gained political as well as religious power, it began to grow corrupt. Then a reform movement came about through Martin Luther and others, who were persecuted severely by the church. Later on, Lutherans began to persecute Calvinists. Then Calvinists began to persecute Anabaptists, who brought out truth from God on baptism.
Still later, Baptists persecuted Pentecostals, who brought out a different truth about the baptism in the Holy Spirit. There have been succeeding waves of truth that God wants to restore to the church. These revelations of truth have been the seed for some of the major denominations which many times began as despised and persecuted sects.
The new Christian needs to find a fellowship

of believers who love the Lord and who

believe the Bible. There are Episcopal priests

who love God with all their hearts."

They are filled with the Holy Spirit, who walk in the Spirit and serve Jesus, and whose churches are beautiful places of worship.
Obviously, because the church is never a building or institution or even an organization, but the church is always a gathering of believers with God's Holy Spirit and God's Word.  We need to remember that it is God makes the believing people a "beautiful place of worship"--never our building or institution or even an organization.
"In some Catholic churches born again Christians could feel at home.
There are Baptist churches where members love God, Presbyterian churches where the members love God, as well as Methodist, Assemblies of God, Nazarene, and Holiness churches and many others where the members love God.

When you are looking for a church home, the first thing to do is to ask the Lord to guide you. Ask Him where He wants you. Find a church that is true to the Bible, one where the people love Jesus Christ and serve Him as Lord. Are the doctrine, teaching, and practice of that church in accordance with the Word of God? Do the members try to live out the doctrine they profess? If you find those characteristics and a warm fellowship, the church may be for you"

I BELIEVE IN CHRIST RULE. I DO NOT BELIEVE IN ELDERSHIP RULE

I DO NOT BELIEVE IN ELDERSHIP RULE
I don't believe in "Eldership Rule," but I do believe  alone Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior is my ruler--"
READ JOHN 10:1-4, 9-16, 26-29
"...I am the door: by Me if an, ym..an enter in he shall be saved, and he shall go in and out, and he shall find pasture....(v11)I am the good pastor(shepherd--poimos):
the good pastor giveth His life for the sheep....{v14) I am the good pastor (poimos) and know my sheep, and am known of mine."
(16) Other sheep I have, which are not of this fold....and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold and one pastor,...(27) My sheep hear My voice, and I know them and they follow me."
READ JEREMIAH 3:15
"I will give you pastors (shepherd-poimos--LXX) according to mine heart, which feed--(pastorize--poimos ) with knowledge and understanding."
READ 1PETER 5:4
"When the Chief Shepherd (arch-poimos) shall appear, ye shall recieve a crown of glory that fadeth not away."

In discussing one pulpit message about being born again with the speaker (an elected Elder). I thought it was great message doctrinally--I thought I'd compliment him about it.

When I talked with him about it; He said it was from John Piper--who has a great commentary on John's "Born Again," and then he added "so why reinvent the wheel?" meaning why not just use his stuff.

This speaker is a great guy, and a great speaker with a good platform appearance--very casual and humorous. He probably could recite the ABCs and get a good laugh.
So why "reinvent the wheel?"
I thought to myself --well sure there's plenty of "canned stuff" out there.

That's great, but that's not what I want.  I believe the speaker for God should be getting something from God.

Commentaries are good to confirm what I think I got from God.

One problem in criticising an elected elder--he's liked by everybody--isn't he popularly elected--who am I ti criticise?
All right I could just stay at home.  But being absent

Shouldn't I just go along to get along?

First for all historical church facts show some Baptist today are not even baptist--"ruling elders" is a presbyterian distinction not Baptist.
I do believe in "Christ ruling" and He is our pastor through the man standing before us.

I don't believe in "Eldership Rule"--"I do believe in Christ ruling"

God the Holy Spirit speaks through the under-pastor (1 Peter 4:10-11,5:4) who speaks the Written Word (what the Holy Spirit gave to the Apostolic writers).

The words of the "one pastor - the Good Pastor--True Shepherd  come to His Flock through a God-appointed underpastor many millennium later.

In John 10, the Lord Jesus Christ speaks of the good shepherd--the Apostle John wrote that in Greek. That is the same Greek word the Apostle Paul used in Ephesians 4:11.  What does that mean?
When Jesus Christ says "I am the good shepherd…." John wrote the Greek poimhn also meaning pastor.

Jesus  also said,
14
I am the good shepherd      . I know my own, and I`m known by my own;
15
even as the Father knows me, and I know the Father. I lay down my life for the sheep.
16
I have other sheep, which are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will hear my voice. They will become one flock with one shepherd.
He gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, shepherds and teachers;

He gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, shepherds and teachers;

THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD

World English Bible
The Lord is my shepherd
There are two allegories in this Psalm which are admirably well adapted to the purpose for which they are produced, and supported both with art and elegance. The first is that of a shepherd; the second, that of a great feast, set out by a host the most kind and the most liberal As a flock, they have the most excellent pasture; as guests, they have the most nutritive and abundant fare. God condescends to call himself the Shepherd of his people, and his followers are considered as a flock under his guidance and direction. 1. He leads them out and in, so that they find pasture and safety. 2. He knows where to feed them, and in the course of his grace and providence leads them in the way in which they should go. 3. He watches over them and keeps them from being destroyed by ravenous beasts. 4. If any have strayed, he brings them back. 5. He brings them to the shade in times of scorching heat; in times of persecution and affliction, he finds out an asylum for them. 6. He takes care that they shall lack no manner of thing that is good.

SHEPHERD - PASTOR

4166   pastor        poimhn

The Septuagint LXX (70) is a very early translation of the Hebrew Old Testament used by the N.T. Apostles.
Psalm 23's "Shepherd"same as John 10's shepherd, and Ephesians
Psalm 23:

itents, all true believers

1
Yahweh is my shepherd: I shall lack nothing.

2
He makes me to lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.

3
He restores my soul. He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name`s sake.

4
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You have anointed my head with oil. My cup runs over.

6
Surely goodness and lovingkindness shall follow me all the days of my life, And I shall dwell in Yahweh`s house forever

Jesus Christ pictures Himse;f as the "Good Pastor" or "Shepherd" same Greek word.  He listens and understands me like no one else.
All who have come before me are thieves and robbers; but the sheep would not listen to them.
9
I am the Door. If any one enters by me, he will find safety, and will go in and out and find pasture.
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy: I have come that they may have Life, and may have it in abundance.
"I am the Good Shepherd. A good shepherd lays down his very life for the sheep.

The Lord will give His believers pastors-shepherds to feed His believers.  (pastors-shepherds same Greek)
I will give you shepherds (poimos-pastors) according to
my heart, who shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.  (LXX)
